Community Service
Although Richard is a civil attorney in private practice, he views his role as a trial lawyer as one of public service. Richard believes in giving back time and money to the community. For the last twenty-four years, the firm has been a proud sponsor of youth baseball and softball in Gwinnett County. Richard speaks at continuing education classes for lawyers on such topics as insurance bad faith, plaintiff's personal injury, medical malpractice, proving visible and non-visible injuries and premises liability with an emphasis on crime victim's cases and litigation.
Since 2001 Richard has served as a part time Magistrate Judge in Gwinnett County Georgia. He was an elected member of the Council of Magistrate's Court Judges for the 9th District and has been the Editor of the Council of Magistrate Court Judges Newsletter. Richard has held all elected offices in this statewide organization and was elected President of the Council of Magistrate Court Judges for the fiscal year 2009-2010.
He is an active member of the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce, serving as a member on the 2005-2006 Executive Roundtable. Richard has also served as a coach for the 2004 and 2007 Wesleyan High School Mock Trial team, which competes in the Gwinnett County High School Mock Trial Competition, designed to give high school students an opportunity to compete against each other in presenting a case in a mock trial. In October, 2003 Richard appeared as a guest speaker to discuss premises liability on Atlanta's WABE Channel 30's public television show, The Layman's Lawyer.
Richard also serves as a registered mediator for the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution, Registration No. 1268, for general mediation and domestic mediation and as an arbitrator. Richard is a member of the panels of the American Arbitration Association and the Georgia Academy of Mediators and Arbitrators.
